Internships

We’re looking for smart, talented people to join our team for internship/work experience. To find out more about Smarkets, read more about us and a bit about the team.

Current positions

Engineering intern

You should apply if:

  • You love to hack

Smarkets is a company founded by programmers. You should love developing and solving problems. Smarkets is built on an entirely open source stack utilising Erlang, Python, CouchDB, Postgres, RabbitMQ, XenServer, Debian and Ubuntu. You'll get to work with some of the best technology available today.

  • You get excited about creating cutting–edge web sites

If you’re only interested in LAMP and gained all your knowledge from Dreamweaver tutorials, we’re probably not the company for you. But if you’re interested in working on a trading exchange in a real-time environment, you won’t be disappointed.

  • You want to experience life in a London start–up

We work alongside other start–ups in our London office so you’ll learn how the start–up scene works, the ‘everyone–mucks–in’ mentality as well as experience local pubs. It’s not all booze–fuelled though: this will be hard work and maybe long hours, but you’ll be able to say you were part of a successful European start-up.

  • You have a UK work permit and can join us for at least 3 months

We’re not interested in remote workers and we can’t get you a work permit. Sort out the legal stuff before you contact us. We’d want you to be here for a minimum of three months, hopefully longer!

Business development intern

You should apply if:

  • You have a way with words and people

We’re looking for a people–person, not a shrinking violet! You’ll be excited about talking to users, getting their feedback and helping them with their problems. You’ll also be working with stakeholders, investors, and business people too. You’ll have to be comfortable with figures, be able to knock up a mean report, and be able to draw conclusions from data. You’ll learn about the customer–facing and business aspects of a start–up in the gaming industry.

  • You get excited about working on cutting–edge websites

You’ll need to be excited (and knowledgeable) about the web. You’ll be talking to other companies on our behalf, perhaps writing press releases and marketing material, and your enthusiasm needs to shine through.

  • You want to learn a lot, fast

We’re a small company in a fast moving industry. You’ll learn a great deal in a short period of time, and we’ll expect you to keep up with us.
